Embracing the BAD
J. N. C. Dandison
I am so happy I was always owed my salary, for months, I am also happy I have experienced hunger and lack of food of in my life because without these and more I would not have a acquired the knowledge and skills and achievements I have acquired today. The essence of experience, whether positive or negative, is for one to truly and effectively understand a thing, a feeling, a circumstance or condition to enable the person have a first hand knowledge of the thing, feeling, circumstance or condition and to most importantly, learn from it. For instance, if you have never been sick, you will not fully know the experience of being sick, so you cannot authoritatively tell someone how a sick persons actually feels, the emotions, the discomfort, the extent of pain and how much he wishes to be better.
It is popularly said that 'experience is the best teacher' but this saying is always taken for granted. Every experience, hard or soft, is a foundation to birth a new achievement in life. If you go hungry for a period of time because of lack of food or money, you will fully understand what deprivation is. It will enable you learn to empathize with anybody that may be in that situation in the future or you know to currently be in the position. It will also enable you, if you are a positive minded person, to strive never to be in that condition again.
Can you truly birth anything without pain? The answer is no. So I have found out that understanding and owning every experience you have gone through or are going through is the building material for the future each person intends to attain. Therefore, one most take time to learn and understand every experience, even those seen as bad experiences today, because the lesson learned, if implemented, will bear the fruit of success. It is not often easy to bear the pain, but the understanding of the purpose of the pain and the promised achievement thereafter makes the process worthwhile. Have you ever seen the smile of a newly delivered mother when her baby is put in her arms or the celebration of footballers after they have won a tournament? Then you will understand what I mean. Been there, done that and still doing it. Embrace all and keep achieving.
